Triumph Motorcycles and Scuderia SC Caracchi Team Up to Contest 2008 World Supersport Championship

At the Paris motorcycle show today, Simon Warburton - Triumph Motorcycle Company's Product Manager - and Stefano Caracchi - Scuderia SC Team Owner - confirmed the official partnership between Team Scuderia Caracchi and the Triumph Motorcycle Company to compete in the 2008 World Supersport Championship with Triumph's Daytona 675 motorcycle.
This is Triumph's first venture into racing on the world stage since the company was re-established in Hinckley.
The Team Triumph-SC will be the sole factory representative for the Triumph Motorcycle Company. The factory team will be run by Stefano Caracchi and will be based in Bologna, Italy. The team will field two riders in the World Supersport class and another two in the Superstock600 European Championship, which is reserved for younger riders. The riders are yet to be confirmed but are expected to include both British and Italian talent.
Triumph's Product Manager, Simon Warburton, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for Triumph and the factory is behind the team 100 The Daytona 675 has won many awards since its launch and participating in the Supersport World Championship will further raise the profile of this fantastic bike and Triumph's profile in general.”
Stefano Caracchi, addressing the press during the announcement, commented: “The Supersport and Superstock600 are very competitive and hard categories, but we are very confident in the potential of the Daytona 675. Our team has contested the World Superbike Championship ever since the first series and we have a highly talented and experienced technical staff managed by Franco Farnè to develop the Daytona to meet this new challenge. Triumph has welcomed our project with enthusiasm, and we will repay their confidence. Customers, fans and sponsors will be able to follow the team's exploits through a dedicated Team Triumph-SC website, which will go live later this year. The 2008 championship is also expected to be covered live on Eurosport in the UK and Italy, as well on dozens of other channels worldwide."
